Introductory Ultrasound for Emergency Medicine

The course is held in Melbourne, Victoria

Introductory Ultrasound for Emergency Medicine (IUEM) courses are delivered with a focus on the acquisition of practical skills for use in an emergency environment.

Designed by doctors for doctors, these accredited courses are aimed at candidates at all levels that have little or no prior ultrasound experience. Hands on time is the focus with a 1:3/2:3 ratio of time dedicated to theory/practical.

The five day course is overseen by Dr. Adam Bystrzycki, and Dr. Jack Spencer consultant emergency physicians.
Course objectives

At the conclusion of this course you will be able to:

Explore the physical principles and artifacts of ultrasound to attain basic practical proficiency in image optimisation

Demonstrate basic practical proficiency in performing and interpreting the following ultrasound examinations:
eFAST
AAA
Lung
Vascular access (through experience gained on ultrasound phantoms)
Basic echo in life support

Discuss the clinical role, practical applications and limitations of focused ultrasound assessment of the following:
eFAST
AAA
Lung
Vascular access (through experience gained on ultrasound phantoms)
Basic echo in life support

Explain the practical application of the RUSH protocol and the HI-MAP imaging sequence in the assessment of the critically ill patient in shock

Document and present complete and accurate sonographic findings for recording in the patient’s record to facilitate appropriate diagnosis and clinical management

Eye and ENT Emergency Seminar

The seminar is to be held at The Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital, Melbourne

The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital is again offering an Eye and ENT Emergency Seminar for A.C.E.M Trainees and Fellows and A.S.E.M members. The seminar will run over two days Thursday 4 and Friday 5 September 2014. In addition, there will be an optional practice examination on Eye / ENT emergencies (VAQs and SAQs) for pre-fellowship trainees. Participants may register for either or both days.

The Seminar will offer the opportunity for participants to draw upon the expertise of our colleagues in Ophthalmology and ENT surgery as their specialties relate to our practice of Emergency Medicine. It is accredited CPD points by ACEM.

Advanced Life Support Level 2

This course is to be held in Perth, WA, Australia

The ALS course is an intensive 2-day course providing a standardised approach to resuscitation in adults. It has been designed for individuals from critical care areas who would be expected to provide advanced life support in an in-hospital or pre-hospital situation.
