This three day course scheduled over a weekend for your convenience will give you the ultrasound skills you need to make critical decisions in a rural and remote setting.

This practical and focused course builds your skills in a practical, step-by-step manner with over 14 hours of scanning.

This course will provide you with the skills to:

demonstrate practical proficiency in B mode and colour image optimisation in order to enable appropriate diagnosis
demonstrate basic practical proficiency in performing and interpreting:
eFAST
AAA
gallbladder and biliary tree
transabdominal assessment in the 1st trimester
vascular access
outline the principles of assessment of first trimester bleeding including differentiation of pregnancies of unknown location and miscarriage
document and present complete and accurate sonographic findings for recording in the patient's record to facilitate appropriate diagnosis and clinical management

Are you an ED physician wanting advanced ultrasound skills for the ED environment? Are you seeking skills in DVT, early pregnancy, basic nerve blocks and emergency musculoskeletal ultrasound?
Then this is the course for you.

This three day course will give you the advanced ultrasound skills you need to make critical decisions in the ED.

Led at every step by skilled sonographers and physicians you will come away equipped with a set of new skills ready to apply in the real world.

This practical and focused course builds on experience from other courses and will extend your skills with over 14 hours of scanning over three days. At the end of this course you will be able to demonstrate proficiency in performing and interpreting emergency ultrasound scans – including:

eFAST
AAA
2 region assessment of DVT
Ultrasound guided procedures including vascular access and nerve block techniques
Transabdominal 1st trimester assessment of pain and bleeding
Musculoskeletal imaging in the assessment of:
foreign bodies
cellulitis and abscesses
medial gastrocnemius muscle and Achilles tendon tears
and management of fractures in the emergency situation

Introductory Ultrasound for Emergency Medicine

The course is held in Melbourne, Victoria

Introductory Ultrasound for Emergency Medicine (IUEM) courses are delivered with a focus on the acquisition of practical skills for use in an emergency environment.

Designed by doctors for doctors, these accredited courses are aimed at candidates at all levels that have little or no prior ultrasound experience. Hands on time is the focus with a 1:3/2:3 ratio of time dedicated to theory/practical.

The five day course is overseen by Dr. Adam Bystrzycki, and Dr. Jack Spencer consultant emergency physicians.
Course objectives

At the conclusion of this course you will be able to:

Explore the physical principles and artifacts of ultrasound to attain basic practical proficiency in image optimisation

Demonstrate basic practical proficiency in performing and interpreting the following ultrasound examinations:
eFAST
AAA
Lung
Vascular access (through experience gained on ultrasound phantoms)
Basic echo in life support

Discuss the clinical role, practical applications and limitations of focused ultrasound assessment of the following:
eFAST
AAA
Lung
Vascular access (through experience gained on ultrasound phantoms)
Basic echo in life support

Explain the practical application of the RUSH protocol and the HI-MAP imaging sequence in the assessment of the critically ill patient in shock

Document and present complete and accurate sonographic findings for recording in the patient’s record to facilitate appropriate diagnosis and clinical management

Advanced and Complex Medical Emergencies (ACME) Course 2015

The course will be held at St Vincent's Health Education Centre, Melbourne, Victoria

ACME a three day course using simulation, small group discussions, mini-scenarios and interactive workshops to explore the complex specialty of emergency medicine. The ACME course aims to stimulate and provoke the experienced physician practicing emergency medicine and who wishes to be challenged. Because the emphasis in this course is on learning and sharing information, there is no formal assessment of participants.
